Physical activity and cognitive functioning

Living a sedentary life is now considered a risk factor for stroke and dementia and a study of 42 older women (average age 65) in Calgary, Canada has found that women who took part in regular aerobic activity had better blood flow to their brain and superior cognitive functioning. The study measured the women's cardiovascular health, blood flow to their brain and their cognitive functioning. Compared to the inactive women the active women had lower blood pressure, higher blood flow to the brain during exercise and higher cognitive function scores.
